Although no fan of BL by any stretch of the imag...am I somehow morally wrong to be reminded of the Ben Shan "Because you have killed a man does not mean you have silenced him" poster so popular in the 60s?

Geronimo, indeed.

Despite their permanent marginalizaton and near-total annihilation in America's "final solution" to the "Indian problem", native Americans still carry the name and image of Geronimo in their still unsubjugated, sovereign hearts.

Will our treatment of Geronimo - and Crazy Horse, and Sitting Bull and Osceola, and many others - come back to haunt us? It has only been 150 years - a mere moment in time compared to say, The Battle of the Boyne, or the centuries-long record of Bosnian/Serbian/Croatian mutual offenses or the millennial traditions of hostility among inhabitants of the Middle East

With hundreds of millions of dollars of technology, infrastructure and logistics, we managed to kill one apparently unarmed, lightly-defended 57 year-old-man. If all we proved is that our idea of "justice" is "an eye for an eye" - or in this case, two eyes for roughly 6,000 eyes - what have we accomplished?

I'm sick about Obama's enthusiasm for what I see as an arguably necessary but unpleasant tactical act on the one hand, and a senseless gesture of foolish machismo bravado and brutality on another. Shades of "Mission Accomplished!" and the disaster that has turned out to be....

IMHO it's a terribly sad day in America, when this is the "accomplishment" we have, of which to be most proud.
