Subject: Firehouse Five

There are some things to change on the Firehouse Five PLus Two dates. Here goes.

Billy Newman 1966-end

Clarke Mallory never played at Disneyland. Left band the in '53

Danny Alguire 1955-end

Dick Roberts 1955-1966, suffered career ending stroke.

Don Kinch opening day on 2nd cornet. 1958-end on helicon. He is still alive. Horn is in my keeping

Ed Penner played bass sax only til 1950. Died in November of 1956 of cancer

Eddie Forrest joined in Jan. of 1956 and played until the end.

Frank Thomas was with the band off and on from 1962 until he left in 1966. He turned 92 yesterday.

George Bruns played tuba and trombone off and on from 1956 until the last.

George Probert replaced Clarke Mallory. He played all of the years. He too is still alive.

Harper Goff basically only played opening day. Replaced by Dick Roberts.

Jimmy MacDonald played until December of 1955. Replaced by Eddie Forrest.

John Smith subbeb off and on as Probert was not able to make the gigs. Still plays with Probert.

Johnny Lucas was an original member but left the band in 1949.

K.O. Eckland subbed for Thomas until Thomas left the band in 1966.

Monte Mountjoy never played Disneyland.

Ward Kimball played all of the years as well.

One tiny thing about Ed Penner, he played bass sax until 1950, but was with the band until his death in November of 1956. Frank was with the band basically from 1955 to 1966, but his activity started to taper off in the years following 1962. Monte Mountjoy was with the band until Jimmy MacDonald returned in about 1955. George Probert joined the band in January of 1954. I will try to ask George when John Smith became a substitute when I next speak to him. K.O. Eckland took over on piano when Frank left the band. I have some live tapes courtesy of George Probert that have Frank on piano in August of 1966. The last recorded evidence of Frank in the band that Iknow of comes from November of 1966. I am sorry that I confused you with my initial post. I hope this helps!
