Edwin
You did a wonderful deed, forewarning those who have not fallen prey to these unscrupulous scams who are out to rip innoncent victims to the bones.
Unfortunately those who have been swindled are still trying to get a redress and to recover the parted hard earned dues.
I am certain that all us would like to address such criminal acts conducted by these crooks and bring back justice.
To this end, I think it would be appropriate that there shall be a gathering all of the innocent victims, march to Oriental Travel office and demand to recover the loss. Bring in reporters and drum up a commotion so that the world get to know such scam and bring back some order to our society.
Thoughts ???

Another timeshare gimmick. This time round, they (Oriental Travel)claim that you will be given a free gift (a cam corder) for 2 hrs of your time (not you winning a lucky draw or the survey done along orchard road, a new ball game altogether). Futhermore, they ensure you that it is not a timeshare presentation. No selling etc etc... Rather, it is suppose to be an introductory to their new internet travel service. They even give you a "black & white" emphasing those mentioned above
Out of curiousity to see what they are up to, I went for the event & found that it is not true. The whole place have TimeShare written all over it (posters of resorts, testimonials of "satisfied" customer etc). Hell, the sales rep doesn't even know what I'm talking about when I brought the Internet thingy up. So I gave him a piece of my mind & walked out of there even b4 the presentation starts. Spent the rest of the evening with wife shopping at Isetan instead.

It was fun chewing up the guy though....

I'm the unlucky one! The scam is still on. The names to watch out for are:
- Oriental Travels
- Gold Crown Resort
- Jue Shi Marketing Pte Ltd
- New Century Group

Address:
350 Orchard Road
Shaw House, #12-08/09/10
Singapore 238868
Tel: 6238 3836

Company Reg No: 200102114E

I stupidly paid $3,000 via credit card on Sunday (18 Dec 2005) and posted the cheque today to "get" the "free" camcorder gift. Sounds more like a free S$69 for them, that too via registered mail! Had to stop the cheque costing me S$20.

Will be going to CASE (http://www.case.org.sg) this morning. According to "Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) (Cancellation of Contracts) Regulations 2003", we have a 3 days cool off period which is TODAY 21 Dec 2005. Checked with Credit Card company and was told that the amount is still on float. So the company has not got the money yet but it's as good as given. I need to call up Credit Card's security dept 1st thing in the morning to seek for advise. With this website, I've may have a case.

Cool off (for both parties to think over and possibly annul the contract if need be) period is vital for me as I need to cancel the contract with the assistance of CASE to ensure I do it correctly.

Thanks to the webmaster.

Had to take urgent leave from company for this task.

I can't believe I fell for the oldest trick in the book.

Will keep u folks posted on my battle. I was hoping if I could get some names and contact from this websites from folks who have been duped like me so we can put up a strong case.

Since this is a scam, I may need to report to police since the scammers are still around at the premise.

Wish me luck on my battle!

Went back and forth from CASE to Oriental Travels (OT), about 4 times in a day (9am to 6:30pm). Why? OT was playing with the dates on the acknowledgement letter.

I demanded that they sign with company's chop on the Notice of Cancellation. They only wrote their name and chopped on the letter. They REFUSED to sign saying that they have written their name on it and that is sufficient as it has the company's chop on it already.

On the Acknowledgement letter it has 3 parts. Top part was the "Date of Processing", whch they said they ONLY do it on Thursdays (one day a week). How conveniently it's a "Thursday" as the psycho session was on Sunday and we are to submit the Notice of Cancellation by the 3rd day, i.e. Wednesday. The 2nd part was the Date of Return of the documents. This was correctly put as 21 Dec 2005. (Can't recall the 3rd part. It's filed up in the cupboard now.)

But although it was correctly put as 21 Dec 2005, that too after I had gone back and forth with CASE and OT a few times and finally I told the receptionist off, why can't you just reissue me with another acknowledgement letter since this "letter" is so messy with several cancellations and chops all over for the cancellation? Her answer, sorry we can't. Company policy. %$#&!

They swindle several thousands of dollars from us and cannot afford another cheap piece of photocopy paper with some standard acknowledgement pre-print and mostly handwrittened on the spot by the receptionist. Crap!

I went out of the office and found an elderly couple (roughly in their 70s) and spoke to them about OT. They said that they have been conned about more than a year back. They have fully paid up now. They have never received any Gift Certificates as promised during their psycho session. Mostly when OT quotes them the price of the "resorts", they are usually from other agencies like SA Tours or Chan Brothers etc. The old couple have to kick up a fuss with OT before OT can give them a small discount. The old couple never book flights from OT, only accomodation.

In the psycho session I had on 18 Dec 2005, I was assured an average of 40% to 60% off the existing market price for accomodation and flight. Total crap!

Now CASE tells me that since I have the Notice of Cancellation which I took down personally as well as couriered down to them as well on the same day (this was a must for proof that I had done it on time), I now have to play the waiting game to see if on the 22nd of January 2006, I will get my refund of S$3000 or not. The papers I have should be able to hold up in court as it is not I but THEY (OT) who will have to explain the inconsistencies of the dates on the acknowledgement letter.

Will keep you folks informed of the outcome in late January 2006. Wish me luck!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I too got into similar mess. But they refunded me but only after 90 days. Pl cancel before the 3 days cooling off period.
Got back my money. Did not go to case. I did have an option to go in case they defaulted the 90days agreement
