] Date Posted: Wed, Jul 05 2006, 19:42:59 In reply to: Stephen 's message, "IRN/ATC members" on Tue, Mar 29 2005, 8:55:14 Yesterday, after a hearty meal at paragon with my gf, we wanted to jay walk over to takashimaya but decided not to as the traffic police is known to dish out summons along that stretch. so we walked furthur down towards the traffic lights and there we were stopped by an innocent looking young girl who claimed to be on the first day of work. well, the rest of the story is the same as everyone who has posted. 'Disappointingly' though was the fact that out of the 2 'peel and win' cards we got, 1 was the useless 6D7N travel voucher (who's gonna send money to some foreign registered company located in the wilderness of Thailand??) and the other was just a smiley "thank u have a nice day" face. No shopping or dining vouchers like some others who at least got for their 3 hrs. We were abt to enter the Faber House then we saw another gloomy looking couple walking out. Really strange I thought but the 2 students who accompanied were persuasive. In the end we went through the 'talk', the manager tried to coax us into buying $13500 and even divided the sum wrongly when he said u need to give 1/2 the amt as deposit, stating $7500. Then he went on to say things are flexible and how much we thought we could fork out. We thought to ourselves, firstly the cash upfront was such a turn-off and secondly the deal and everything seemed too 'flexible'. It seems to me (and certain now) that there's no fix membership fee and it's totally up to the salesperson to quote how much they think they can fleece from the individual. What I want to point out is when my girlfriend (thankfully she was real solid firm while I was tempted right left centre) said NO to giving an estimate deposit figure no less than 3 times and wanted to leave, the manager actually tried a last ditch attempt to hook us on by saying, "WHAT IF I OFFER U A 3 YR TRIAL PERIOD FOR FREE?" This is something i dun get it. From posts ive seen all acroos messageboards, i see pple forking out 2.5 - 3K for 3 yr trial. I understand the salespeople get some cash from these supposedly 'smaller' deals as well but offering us free? I shudder now at the thought of how had I fallen for the 'free deal' I would be bounded for the rest of my life paying monthly subscription fees in the excess of 100USD! In any case, things started ot get nasty as my gf rejected the manager's 'kind free offer' and he said,"Now this is something i don't understand. I'm offering all these free to u and u are not biting? I think u are really strange and quite dumb." My gf replied, "Whatever." So my advice is, if u see teenagers doing survey along paragon, and u know u have time to spare (2-3hrs), no harm stopping to try ur luck at the peel and win cards. The 6D7N travel voucher is default and useless. Unless u won urself a shopping/dining/movie tic voucher, dont waste ur time. otherwise get those vouchers on the dot after 80 mins and enjoy them the very next day!
