Kagome Higurashi was just a normal 15 year old high school girl, until the day she was transported back in time through the old well in the back of her family's shrine. When she "arrived", she found herself in what seemed to be a strange new land. She was startled to see a young boy sealed to a tree by an arrow, wrapped in vines. His hair was silvery white, and he had dog ears on the top of his head. She soon discovered this land was full of youkai or demons, and they weren't very friendly. The boy's name was Inu Yasha, and he was, let's just say, pissed about being trapped to the tree. Kagome was attacked by a centipede youkai who wanted something called the Shikon no Tama or the Jewel of Four Souls. Apparently, the youkai sensed the shikon on Kagome. The spectators and Kagome's lives were all endangered, unless the youkai got what she wanted. During the wressle between Kagome and the demon, the Shikon no Tama is ripped out from within Kagome's body. Inu Yasha, watching, demanded to be released from the seal of the arrow. Hesitantly, Kagome pulled the arrow out. Upon being released, Inu Yasha went after the demon, and destroyed her. After the centipede was destroyed, Inu Yasha wanted the Shikon for himself. And so begins our story.
The setting is Sengoku Jidai, the warring states of Japan. Inu Yasha is a hanyou or half demon, and it turns out that Kagome is actually the reincarnation of a powerful priestess, named Kikyou from fifty years ago. Inu Yasha desires to become a full-fledged demon by use of the Shikon jewel. He ended up being put under a spell by an enchanted necklace placed on him which he is unable to remove. By Kagome's word, "Osuwari! (sit!)", Inu Yasha falls straight to the ground.
Demon's all over are sensing the newly surfaced Shikon no Tama, and they want to gain control and power. Youkai after Youkai come after Inu and Kagome in search of it. The Shikon no Tama was accidently shattered into thousands of pieces when Kagome and Inu Yasha were attempting to retrieve it from a crow youkai. The shards have spread all across the feudal lands of ancient Japan in every direction.
Kagome travels through time to help Inu Yasha regain the shikon shards. As the story progresses, we meet a variety of new characters. Soon to join their team would be a young fox pup, named Shippou, and a perverted monk who calls himself Miroku. We are introduced to Inu Yasha's older brother, Sesshou-maru, who has a strong distaste of humans, including his hanyou brother. Insert dangerous quarrels that lead to fights here. If that's not enough, include a new villian entitled Naraku - a master of deception and betrayal. A new member joins their group. Sango, the demon slayer. She wishes revenge on Naruku, for he murdered her family and friends.
Remember Kikyou? Yes, Kagome's soul in a previous life. It seems Kikyou has been brought back to life. What difficulties lie ahead now? And what does her "rebirth" mean for Inu Yasha? Kikyou and Inu Yasha had a connection in the past. And they ended up killing each other as a result fifty years before.
