From The Cold - A non-canon Pern RPG

For one hundred and fifty turns, Pern has been torn by war. Now, there is just one Weyr left, bent on destroying two of the Holds. At least, that is what most of Pern believes. But hidden away past the Barrier Range in the South is another Weyr, with a tiny population of less than fifty dragons. It is a sanctuary against war torn lands. There is little trust and less hope, for Barrier Weyr has a problem - they have no queens, and with Monaco's queens hopelessly loyal, there was no hope that they would get one.
Until one day, a young man and a girl wander in from the icy southern parts of the continent and offer them what sounds like an impossibility. In a compound hidden under ground, thirty-eight eggs lay dormant, waiting to be taken to hot sands that would activate their growth. The young man from the compound cautioned them that the dragons inside would not be what they expected. Two batches were contained in those eggs, one batch created to keep the war going, dragons with talents and strengths built for war, the other batch created to make peace. But they are Barrier Weyr's only hope.
Now dragonriders go out to collect candidates - more often than not, kidnapping them. Some riders are skeptical of these eggs, and make their own plans to fortify against Monaco. And a few who act as both starssmiths and dragonriders watch the sky and the Red Star looming ever closer. No one really needs to speak their fears - no queens, eggs with strange dragons, riders who don't all quite trust each other, and the Red Star looming closer than it has in centuries. From the cold came no answers, only a hope for their uncertain future.
