A large reunion is planned for Sunday July 19th at 12:00 at the El Caribe in Mill Basin. Doug Adamsky, Ellen Bober Graham, Elisa Turoff Rosenblum and other friends are planning this reunion and aggressively searching for all of our old friends.
While we’ve referred to this as a ‘Bildersee Reunion’, it is open to all of our old friends from Canarsie, Bergen Beach, Mill Basin, Georgetown and the surrounding areas. In the process of planning this reunion, we wanted to try to find all of our old friends and we simply opted to use the Bildersee yearbook from 72’ to help us with the search… It’s worked. From November 2008 to today, we’ve located approximately 200 people from Bildersee, South Shore, Canarsie HS and most are planning to attend. The list is growing daily and thankfully, The El Caribe has the capacity to host up to 800 people. We’d love nothing more than to max them out with a spectacular party that’s all about 800 old friends reconnecting.
If you’d like to be a part of this, please know we want to see you and we want to help you find other old friends to join in.

the reunion went great last weekend in canarsie. We met as planned right in bildersee junior high school at 1pm saturday . almost 70 percent of the class showed up from 1973 to 77 they flew in from florida calif jersey long island. Even most teachers we could find came as well (we paid the hotels for those living far away). however many still teach in bildersee. We had lunch in the school cafeteria and even got scooter pies and those lil milk containers too.we faked a milk fight. We talked and took fotos and looked at the yearbooks. Many had their old notebooks with notes still legible.We recalled those days of strikes , blizzards, vietnam, laugh-in . We played the music from those days on the speaker system in the lunchroom.Mr. Mankowitz ,the lunchroom man now 68 flew up from Century Village florida to attend.we paid his stay
After we walked down the street outside towards flatlands avenue. The old milkboy store is gone but the candy place remains and still sells the bazooka gum and sugar daddys too. we grabbed a slice over on flatlands and bought great bagels on flatlands and 81st. still great taste but 3 bucks a dozen Finally we walked the halls of ol bildersee with the then principal who is now retired in boca raton .Finally we played stickball in the bildersee park after kicking the new kids out. We exchanged emails with friends teachers crushes etc. Next get together will be in sshs but maybe next summer07
This letter is fiction but how many of you would love this to be possible?? Nex summer 08 or 09 As usual ill be in brooklyn to visit family that refuses to leave. I always stop by canarsie to take fotos walk abit and always get a few x canarsiers to accompany me. Anyone with me summer 08 or 09?
anyway where is gwen sherman 82nd street Shes the only one i cant find from my bildersee grad class 9-1 1972?

Mr. Balter. remember him? I think he was a science teacher in Bildersee. One fine day in 1970 me and Joanne (Krivit) were cutting class and were busted by Mr. Balter. He yelled out our names as my hand was literally on the push bar of the exit door. As luck would have it, though, Howard Festburg appeared at that moment and apparently had a bone to pick with Mr. Balter. He screamed "You got balls, Balter!!!". over and over again, completely distracting Balter while Joanne and I got the hell out of there. I never did find out what Howard did to Balter, but I will tell you this, I remember Balter looking very scared. He was a real punk, actually. I hope Howard beat the crap out of him!

Today there are many shows from the 70s on the tube. Theyre on late night between other old or new shows;sex in the city- odd couple -alli mcbeil.
.Also theyre on with their stars talking about the days when they made the shows..a 55 yr old woman talking about her career 30 yrs ago as the daughter on the partridge family. while we see the episodes shes talking about.
And finally my fav is the entire lineup,
you see the very same shows commercials ads everything as it was on saturday night october 11 1971.Its 3 hours of going back in time.The commercials are also funny.hairspray for men etc

I spent three years in Bildersee with the man and can only say that he was a great guy and that I will miss him. Indeed, this sucks. Here is the message:

Hey there! Joanne was the first and greatest love of my life. Does anyone remember her? We were in 9th grade together..class 9-9 i think it was. this was in 1970, my last year in canarsie. I lived on east 81st st between farragut and glenwood roads, directly across the street from the Weisses (Craig, Lonnie, Lori). In fact, Craig and I were best friends for some year very early in our lives . Anyway, If anyone remembers Joanne, or me for that matter, I would probably or at least possibly enjoy reminiscing...!

My message was archived? Oh well, time for another one!
I remember many things about growing up in Canarsie. It was a great place to grow up. It was safe. I wouldn't let my kids walk home from school for lunch like I used to at age 7 back in second grade. I remember the excitement of being in 5th grade (PS115) and having a dollar to go out to lunch with my friends. That was a treat. We'd go to Joes, Domino's or Originals Pizza, get two slices, a coke, ices and a dime change from our buck! Sometimes, we'd go to Sylvia and Pauls luncheonette where you could get a cheeseburger deluxe, coke and a sugar cone of Louis Sherry (or something close to that) ice cream for that same buck. When we went to Bildersee, going out for lunch was like a jail break! There was a great place for Falafel named Irvings, next to Danza. There was always Franks pizza, but I like Ave L pizza a lot more. My ultimate treat was putting a whole small package of Philly cream cheese on an everything bagel that just came out of the oven from the bagel store on 81st and Flatlands. We could ride our bikes from 3 O-clock until dinner. My parents never knew where I was. That's something else my kids will never know. Canarsie definitely toughened us up though. I'm embaressed to say how many times I was on the losing side of a 3 O-clock fist fight. It took a lot of beatings before I finally said enough of this shit and learned how to kick some ass! These are lessons that kids of today won't get because of politically correct, zero tolerance laws motivated by liability worries! Now that was a helluva sentence, huh? Not getting picked for a team in a pick up game because you sucked at that game was another lesson we learned. It was a hard lesson to learn. Trust me, I know! But again, growing up in Canarsie taught us many lessons. But we have become a soft America and IMHO, we can't afford to be so soft anymore. Our fucking enemies sure as hell aren't! OK, I'm starting to ramble. Anyone want to say hi to me, feel free. I get nostalgic like this every so often. I'm fortyfive now. I wake up in the morning and feel like twenty. Then I look in the mirror and say, "Who the hell are you"? That's not funny! I had a lot of friends back in the day. Now the few I still keep in touch with are scattered all over the place. I just want to play one more game of stickball at 276 park with my old buds again. Oh well, time to take the family somewhere. Gotta fly.

It's been a million years and I think we should round up everyone for a party or BBQ or something. So many stories, so much history. We had a great class. Much better memories than high school!!

Canarsie was great .I dont recall deciding to leave but i fuess we each ran off in a diff direction after what we saw as a good life. 30 years later we stop and look back thinking our friends are right behind us, but no..They too ran off after balloons. Internet creates the idea of finding x friends and as well satisfies that need.....I think thatchildhood is a great time and canarsie was fantastic.However i never understand why my kids need a 250 dollar playstation when I was happy with a buck spalding.Why i wore levis and chuck taylors and they still do. Why i listened to jagger and they do too.My parents worked hard so i could have a better life however i went 6 years to university but I stillwork hard too so my kids can have an even better life.What exactly is A Better Life? my kids will grow up in a better house but be no happier than i was as a kid.Mayve we should have stayed on 80th street!!Sittin on that stoop was enough . Never shouls have walked down those stairs off to college...Today we live in jersey, long island miami LA and me in spain...Class 9-1 bildersee 1972....ps donate money to keep this webpage alive...open a paypal account and transger from yours ro greggs..... still looking for a gwen sherman from 82nd near faragut. she went to 114 bildersee sshs and brooklyn college. wore glasses .Anyway, ill be in canarsie summer 07 as i pass newark to long island.,
