Anyone know where Ronnie Jacobowitz might be? We use to play basketball in bildersee and at the night center. Yeah they had a night center for a couple of years it was great ! Use to wear the original converse sneakers that where less than 10 bucks back then, and the original pumas! He lived on 85st and Flatlands ave. Many had their old notebooks with notes still legible.We recalled those days of strikes , blizzards, vietnam, laugh-in . We played the music from those days on the speaker system in the lunchroom.Mr. Mankowitz ,the lunchroom man now 68 flew up from Century Village florida to attend.we paid his stay
After we walked down the street outside towards flatlands avenue. The old milkboy store is gone but the candy place remains and still sells the bazooka gum and sugar daddys too. we grabbed a slice over on flatlands and bought great bagels on flatlands and 81st. still great taste but 3 bucks a dozen Finally we walked the halls of ol bildersee with the then principal who is now retired in boca raton .Finally we played stickball in the bildersee park after kicking the new kids out. We exchanged emails with friends teachers crushes etc. Next get together will be in sshs but maybe next summer07

It is with sadness to hear on the news and read it in the newspapers that South Shore HS will be closing it's doors forever. What the Dept of Education (fancy new name for the Board of Ed) is saying is that "the school is being phased out of existance"; they will not admit any new students in September and there will no longer be a ninth grade. Students who are in the school can continue in the school until they graduate. The school will close it's doors in June 2010. The building will reopen with several small high schools operating inside it. The name "South Shore High School" will no longer exist. For those of you from the late 1980's on, this is not the same as the "house structure" that was formed within the school. The phase out means that the school will cease to exist. The building will be a building that will house several small schools with different administrations, teachers, students, etc.
It is also sad that South Shore never established an alumni association.
Oh, the memories of 4 years in a building that held almost 7000 students over 13 periods (I was in the class of '76). In addition I have the added memories of being on the faculty for almost 15 years.

Im Rabbi Geltman from the temple SHEREE EMETH ON 78TH FARRAGUT in Canarsie where a boy named Neil Korman received his Bar Mitsvah in 1969 and we are clearing our records and I have found his old Bar Mitsvah record .There is a note attached indicating that he had to return to the synogogue the Monday after his Bar Mitsvah to complete the ceremony as it wasnt fully completed .The families had to attend to a party. I guess the then Rabbi had told his parents to return and they forgot.As this is strictly a religious ceremony,and he didnt return,he can still see me to complete this ceremony ,it takes only half an hour and then I can list you as Bar Mitsvaed.However ,he at this time is not Bar Mitvahed and if he wants, he can contact me here.Its never too late! im new here and i see alot of people i dont know.id like to give my view of south shore and all the crazy people i met here.south shore was the best time i had in school ever. nobody cared what color you were except that haitians and jamaicans hated each other then too.i remember the teachers that i had, mr stember for criminal justice where i went to join a club called human relations,dont know why i joined(girls?),we went on trips occasionaly,mainly local but once to hershey park and 1 trip to the stevensville hotel in upstate ny. that was a fun weekend of hanging out with other schools watching shows getting our asses kicked playing softball against a team that was staying there.(i even lost my room key diving for a ball in the outfield ,didnt get ball either, just a pile of grass in my crotch)i also remember mrs tansky for hygiene class, that was a picnic, every day i was a wise ass there and for a special project we had to pair up boy /girl and act like married couples with a budget,,me and a guy named marc kuweblum????did one as a male/male,i aint taking credit he did everything even remembered ky jelly in budget(i aint gay but i am the only male lesbian youll ever meet).i saw her yrs later in the bowling alley and for some reason she remembered me(you always remember the class joker??)gym class was a breeze i had weight lifting/jogging for every term there..one teacher looked like lex luther(epstein) another supposedly did porn (tischler)the fire was a good memory too, i was on the fourth floor in karmans class.when the bells rang and someone came in saying the school was on fire he hauled ass out of the class without us.the second time it went up i was like "big deal" the third time i said why fucking bother this place aint going nowhere (but downhill in 10 years).i also met a guy named drew zapadinski, i still have the pic from mr princes class with cigs in his ears and cigs up my nose,unbelievably nobody wanted mine back to smoke , so i had to smoke them, and i dont and still dont smoke.i never hung out with any group or clique there but i was friends/friendly with everyone i ever saw and met there.maily i hung out at old gil hodges or the horsemens lounge.(think thats easy? im 16,17 in a dive bar.try that one)i know the old owner now and told him that,he was overjoyed to hear that...one time in mr ross,s science class i had the class stopped for laughter because we had class on kidneys or some other body part and loudly blurted out "it looks like a dick"that class was 10 minutes serious and 30 min laughing non stop,especially preston white who couldnt stop and in my yearbook wrote "i hope your on tv telling nasty jokes everyday"..i do that but not on tv.anyone remember the "bull" he always gets his enemies...i remember senior monk day,that made no sense to me,, i tried for senior taboo day where we lined up around the school just like the movie ,,,amazingly they all said no ;the schoolteachers and the girls,,not any guys ....there were girls i knew who would grow up good looking ang some guys i said,,man they are never gonna get laid at all..im probably right too.i remember a whole lot more but i dont want to take up a whole page. if you can add anything or remember anythin gi said feel free to write back here. if you remember me and want to say whats up my email is traff115@verizon.net...im still in brooklyn(old mill basin) for now so if you want to ask me if something about the area is still here..thankfully fairlyland is gone and the rollercoaster is out of my fucking backyard.. my e mail is traff115@verizon.net ..hope to hear from ya

One of the greatest people to ever walk the halls of South Shore High School, Greg Saucedo, will have his football jersey retired before the Vikings' first home game, this Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003.
Greg will officially become the first person to have his number retired at South Shore, a fitting tribute to a great man who saved thousands of lives, and made the people around him better.
For those of you who knew Greg (class of 1987), not much needs to be said. For those of you who did not know Greg, he was an absolute joy to be around, a great person, a gentleman, the captain of the Vikings' football team and a hero who gave his life on 9/11 as a member of the FDNY.
The ceremony is at 11 am at the SSHS football field, this Saturday, Sept. 6 (about one hour before game time). Friends of Greg - and there were many - please spread the word. South Shore and the football team were a big part of Greg's life, and we all know how proud his family will be that day. And I know Greg will be watching proudly, as well.
Fell free to attach a message, or a memory, in tribute to Greg.

just read that the class of 72 has gotten together not only to party but to donate money to the class of 05. they will present a check and speak to the grad class in june 05. each one will have 5 minutes to talk about life education and being a kid; something that comes with an expiration date. they wil set up an annual prize for best student in some subject and they will return to speak each year. now id love to do something like that with my class.

After reading this board and all the reunions, I started to pine for a gathering...And suddenly relaized it's about 30 years coming up -It made me remember how Jeff yahney used to play music live in the old days of Sing Victory parties, and any other excuse for a party....He is a very successful DJ as well now and maybe we can get him to do the 30 year for us. What a hoot!!!!

Anyone remeber Mr Nissen? I bumped into him today. He is an assistant principal at a Manhattan High School. Kids used to hang out and smoke in his office .... He was a crazy and loud, but a good teacher. One of the few teachers in South Shore that I remembered from the 70's.

I miss the brawls under the rotunda in the hot summer heat waiting to summer school. Fights back then were perfect, skin on skin, none of this metal detector shit. I remember so much beef all the time with glenwood and 68 park, L park and the russians, and 2H and just about everyone. It was a lovely little soap opera when you think about it. But most of all I miss the unity of when we all hung out by the wall of fame and the rotunda following Jimmy Rosano's passing (RIP).For an event that wasnt too far behind, its amazing how fast life just keeps wanting to smack you in the face and drag you down.I guess I shouldnt look forward or back, just keep moving in whatever direction the wind takes me.

Im Rabbi Geltman from the temple SHEREE EMETH ON &*TH FARRAGUT in Canarsie where a boy named Neil Korman received his Bar Mitsvah in 1969 and we are clearing our records and I have found his old Bar Mitsvah record .There is a note attached indicating that he had to return to the synogogue the Monday after his Bar Mitsvah to complete the ceremony as it wasnt fully completed .The families had to attend to a party. I guess the then Rabbi had told his parents to return and they forgot.As this is strictly a religious ceremony,and he didnt return,he can still see me to complete this ceremony ,it takes only half an hour and then I can list you as Bar Mitsvaed.However ,he at this time is not Bar Mitvahed and if he wants, he can contact me here.Its never too late! Anyone interested in attending a double Canarsie HS/South Shore HS reunion?
The idea is to make it a jumbo reunion for the ultra good-looking and cool classes of 1982 - 1986, as we all have extremely busy lives. (Inclusion of 1981 & up to 1988 is also an option).
Plus, our neighborhood didn't promote the best school spirit, so this way we can guarantee at least 200 - 300 people attending.
Tables can be set up according to HS & graduating year.
Those who didn't graduate CHS or SSHS for whatever reason(but who would have in those years) are also invited.

If the response rate is decent, I'll seriously start planning this for a Saturday night, either in January, 2005, or July, 2005.
This way, some of you have some time to lose 20 pounds,
work out, get lipo and hair transplants:-)
This reunion concept depends on the feedback I get.
We'll have it somewhere nice, either in NYC (either a hotel ballroom like the Hilton, Marriott or Sheraton, or a cool lounge-type place like Metronome).

I was wondering if anyone remember Matthew Christie? He lived on East 81st street between Glenwood & farragurt road. I dated him & after we broke up we lost touch. I found awebpg called classmates.com. you gotta pay to see emails. but free if u just want to be found by those who DO pay. I put myself onthe list and included my email as part of my last name thus Im Gwen ShermanAThotmail ... the rsponse rate has been great. At least 80 percent listed never pay so they wait passivle to be found by payers. Since there arent many payers its like a list of names untouchable thru email. But i guess my idea worked. i got plenty emails from frends who had gotten emails from the webpg that a new classmate had joined. Instead of seeing my name but no email they saw my email and now we chat. I will begin paying classmates in january inorder to upload fotos as well.

Looking for SSHS 1989 Classmates...drop me an e-mail and say hi...just curious to see what everyone is up to since there's not reunion or anything. I live in Bay Ridge but my family still lives in OMB and I am there all the time. Sometimes it makes me really sad about what's happened to the area and neighborhood, but I guess you have to accept that things don't stay the same forever. I guess our parents went through the same thing growing up in East new York and stuff. Anyway, I'm a marketing exec at a large midtown publishing company but I am hoping to get certified as a personal trainer within the year. I graduated Brooklyn College Phi Beta Kappa in 1993. I miss a lot of things about the old neighborhood, and I wish it didn't change so much. Like I miss the old Georgetown movie theater-I must have seen Grease there 10 times when I was a kid. I got an e mail from a kid yesterday asking me if I knew his grand dad.He said the name and to my surprise I did know once a guy with that name back in Canarsie when we graduated from High School in 73.To my surprise my x friend had a kid when he was 20 and his kid had a kid at 21.So now my x pal is 48 and has a grandkid now 7 and a kid at 28. The lil grand kid wants to know about his grandpas life as he said," Back in the olden days when the family lived in the old world in a place called called Canarsie. WOW.That brought me down fast,to think my neighborhood, still fresh in my mind is ,"the old world " and my pals are now grandfathers.I always heard Odessa referred to as the old world refering to My grandma ;back in the olden days.etc.But now this referes to my childhood and to me?

Believe it or not I did a google search on my old address in the can arsie and found an e mail which belongs to the present family living in my old house.I have sent and received e mails from the guy in the house , Walter .. I told him of the good ol days of hangin out at the bleechers at south shore, bildersee park, stoop ball and the brook.He said that it sounded like I was talking about todays canarsie and 80 street cause his kids do the same stuff.They have split session at south shore and his daughter hangs there all afternoon after class,his son plays ball at bilderss park and basketball near the middle ramp on 80 street.The only difference is that the brooks gone and now theres a new club near where the brook used to be, but the paddle ball still goes on.His kids dont miss the brook cause it went before their time.And they too play stoopball.From him,I got the idea that still today diff kids do the same junk we all did but 25 yrs later.I told him of the canarsie friends web pages where x canarsiers wax emotionally about when it was our turn in canarsie .He told his kids to have a look at the page and they did.They said that we did the same things they do today and its remarkable how the same hangouts still draw the crowds.Of course, the old bagel place is now a c.d. shop but they dont miss the bagel shop since it was before their time.Where there was a shule is now a chinese restaurant but they still have their church and great times at that place too.They also said that the page makes us look like ghosts from the past canarsie who gather and rattle their sabers and still haunt the place.I guess we feel the old place went to pot but in fact speaking directly to those in the pot it turns out they are happy as we were and the place is still graesed and in motion,kids go to 276,bildersee and hangout under the bleechers and walk to the new brook and play spalding stoop ball.He said lifes still good there and kids still play football in the backyard .And bildersee still has the spe program and still has milk fights .Wed like to believe we took the good times with us in our bags but we didnt.We return to visit and we drive through in our cars without stopping to talk to the locals so we leave feeling the place is not today what it was25 yrs ago.But maybe it is not canarsie that has changed except for the color of the people,maybe it is we who have changed.THOUGHTS?

WOW! I didn't know SSHS had such an alumni base. The only person around that would know me is Danny Behar, cause he was my neighbor back at 985 East 85th in the 1980s. For Halloween I pulled out my old SSHS football jersey to be part of my costume, and I had to jsut see if there was anything on the internet about our old school. And a whole message board.
Let's see... I was SING leader in 1996 for the junior/soph/fresh team. That was the last SING at South Shore. We followed up in 1997 with the Wizard of Oz. Held in the Rina Stempel Memorial Auditorium. There was the band with Neil Rosen. SO many memories. The metal detectors. The every changing neighborhood, the fast food of the month. June was our 5 year reunion that never happened.
If anyone wants to talk about our alma mater, please email me. Alumni should stick together.
