I think less J/7 is being written but new J/7 authors are still appearing and posting.

I think any decrease in fanfic isn't so much due to seeing more f/f on tv but perhaps it is the fact that no pairing or potential pairing captures the viewers imagination. Xena and Voyager had women who sparkled and caused sparks. They excited. Actual f/f stuff on tv canl create fanfic just like the subtext f/f pairings IF the characters and actresses are exciting enough to make a viewer sit up and take notice. Or better still make a viewer with writing ability sit up and take notice.

I've watched ER the past two seasons because of the Kerry as lesbian storyline. I was immediately taken with Kerry and Laura Innes but not the women the writers have introduced in her life. Abby or Dr. Susan create more possibilities in my mind. So right there is the stepping stone to some fanfic.

I do think that having a running show helps to fuel the fanfic for any pairing. Voyager is done and it's hard for many fans to keep the fires burning.
