Thanks for your response, Sue. It's the best explanation for flag waving that I've seen or read. I feel a lot better about it now (although I do love Celine Dion's version of God Bless America).

The flag can also be used as a shield in these trying times. My dog's vet is from the Middle East, heavy accent, dark complextion - he has about eight flags bordering the outside door to his office. Flags to keep the avenging angels away.
