Task 12

Reading: Film script (10 Things I hate about you)
It is a very cute teen movie. In this scene, Kat, a "rebel without a cause" kind of teen is reading a poem to Patrick, the guy she has a crush on (even though she fights against her feelings).

MRS. BLAISE
(continuing)
Please proceed.

Kat stands, puts on her glasses, and takes a deep breath
before reading from her notebook.

KAT
I hate the way you talk to me/ and the
way you cut your hair/ I hate the way
you drive my car/ I hate it when you
stare.

She pauses, then continues

KAT
(continuing)
I hate your big dumb combat boots/ and
the way you read my mind/ I hate you so
much it makes me sick/ it even makes me
rhyme.

She takes a deep breath, and looks quickly at Patrick, who
stares at the floor.

KAT
(continuing)
I hate the way you're always right/ I
hate it when you lie/ I hate it when you
make me laugh/ even worse when you make
me cry/ I hate it that you're not
around/ and the fact that you didn't
call/ But mostly I hate the way I don '
t hate you/ not even close, not even a
little bit, not even any at all.

She looks directly at Patrick. He looks back this time.
The look they exchange says everything.

Then she walks out of the room The rest of the class remains
in stunned silence.

Writing: Movie Review

1. A year ago I saw a very good film (actually a film-documentary) called 11’09’’01 – September 11. 11 filmmakers from all over the world (Iran, France, The USA and Burkina-Faso, among others) were invited to give their perspective of the Septmeber 11 attack. So, this film-documentary consisted of 11 stories of 11 minutes, 9 seconds and 1 image. The amazing thing is that each story showed how the attack affected the people of a particular community and how it had absolutelly no impact on others. Bottom line: Life goes on. I strongly recommend this film.

2. A film you’d be better off not seeing is Jet Lag (Fusorário do amor). For people who appreciate the refreshing and revigorated post-Amélie Poulain new wave of French cinema, this movie is a total blow. It is clearly based on Hollywood romantic comedy standards, carrying a very predictable Hollywood-like ending. Don’t waste your time with it.

If you’re also a film lover, such as myself, check out www.imdb.com.
