I just read an article where Miss Pamela Des Barres is quoted as saying, "'Groupie' was not a bad word back then. The bands respected the girls--The Rolling Stones were absolute gentlemen. They considered us temporary muses, inspirations--we took care of 'em, you know. But it slowly changed." If that was the case, can you imagine all the paper it would take to thank all these temporary muses for their inspiration? LOL. If Bebe was any kind of muse, in most cases it was temporary.
As for why none of them married Bebe...it's obvious in her book. She says she and Rod were never in love. She says she wasn't in love with Mick (who was married to Bianca). Pretty simple. She may call herself muse, but never claims Rod or Mick wrote specific songs about her. "Little Red Corvette" is a joke. Bebe herself says "It can't be about me, I've never even met Prince." I'm sure Bebe related to the song though, she was "much too fast" and used it to push Elvis' buttons.
Out of all the rockers she slept with, it seems she was really only in love with Todd Rundgren, Steven Tyler, and Elvis Costello. It's obvious why those relationships ended. Bebe and Todd were constantly screwing other people, not exactly stable. Bebe dumped Todd after she became pregnant by Steven. Then she dumped Steven because he was a junkie and she was afraid. I don't think Bebe ever says Steven was going to marry her in the book, just that he was expecting her to move in with him and have the baby. Most guys are not going to marry a woman who is pregnant by another man, and Todd was already in love with another woman at this point. Elvis was married and dumped her, allegedly after she became pregnant and aborted their baby. She was obviously more crazy for him. It's sad Bebe thinks he's writing songs about her to this day. I don't think Bebe gives a crap if, for example, Rod or Mick dedicate songs to someone. Since she never loved them and never claimed they wrote specific songs about her. But it's gotta be a blow when Elvis dedicates something to his Kate. Since Bebe was madly in love with him and wants to believe he's sending her "secret messages".
I can't imagine her marrying any of those guys, from the way she described things. None of her relationships seemed very stable. None of them seem like very good marriage material, Bebe included. I think the only reason her marriage lasted so long was because the guy WASN'T famous. He probably figured at least he'd have a nice apartment to live in and Bebe still looks good. He probably didn't have temptation at every turn. Neither did Bebe, at that point. She didn't have Mick Jagger calling her at 1 a.m. If she did, she would have gone running, no doubt.
