Actually, the abortion thing is just the last in a long line of bizzaro excuses Bebe gives for why Elvis wouldn't marry her. This one is even more pathetic when you realize that Elvis was already very serious with his second-wife-to-be (they married a few months later) at the time she says she "shattered his dreams of us having a family" by telling him she had an abortion, instead of hiding away with the baby (eh??). In reality, if there's any grain of truth there, he was probably just relieved to find out he was 100% off the hook and never had to deal with her again.

Her other excuses for why Elvis wouldn't marry her include that he was "too Catholic" to get divorced (somehow he got over this a short time later... and re-married someone else), and that his MANAGER wouldn't let him(!). That last one has to be my favorite. Maybe his mommy wouldn't let him, either.

I guess it wouldn't enter Bebe's dysfunctional mind that he didn't have it bad for her the way she did (does!) for him. No, that kind of thing only happens to mere mortals. Not muses, like Bebe.
