Subject: Adult dancers

I am an adult dancer just starting out . I have been going to classes for about 6 months and last week my teacher sent me a link to the episode of Jigs & Wigs about adult dancers in Europe.
It has really inspired me. I asked me teacher last night if I could compete but she informed me there is no adult section and said I can still take my exams later in the year.
One of the teenage dancers asked why I don't just go into the over 18 open section and my teacher said that it wouldn't be appropriate due to te fact I'm quote a bit older and not yet at open level.
I wondered if there were any other adult dancers out there or what peoples' opinions were on adults joining in at normal competitions like Cathy off Jihs & Wigs.
Thoughts?

We have an adult class and they are in the same position as you. There is definielty scope for an adult section at Auckland comps but we found our adults didn't like competing against themselves only. Some of oud adult class students have made the progression to intermediate/open level and now compete at Nationals and local comps (NT) -- Leeann Doyle, 14:43:20 04/03/14 Thu
Thanks Leeann. I dance for Ceara down in Hamilton and we have a lovely adult class but a lot of them are a bit nervous to compete. I have watched a couple of competitions and am coming to watch on Subday too and might help her out with the music so I can learn how it's done .
