The reason I have it set to show IP addresses is that it tends to cut down on people posting using the name of another poster, tho that happened over at RRCE even with IP's showing. If most people want it turned off, I can do that and see what happens. If people want to reserve their own name so that nobody else can use it, they can get a user account with Voy.

Now that I think of it, the IP's should show on the message index in the owner section, so I'd be able to find out if someone is posing as another.
