Helpful Hint - Identifying loaded playlist in winamp.
After loading, playing and altering a playlist, you may want to resave the list using it's original name. The problem - you have forgotten the name of the playlist.
Or, you open winamp and play the playlist that's still loaded from the last use - there is a file in there you would like to edit, but you cannot remember the name of the playlist, and/or the folder to which it refers.
To easily identify a loaded playlist, here is a trick that will insert a fake midi file at the top of each playlist that has the name of the playlist and/or the folder to which it refers -- or any other information you wish to display.
Example -
Folder of midi files named "Terry Smythe 05"
The folder has already been loaded into winamp and saved as:
Terry Smythe 05.
Open a notepad, name it Terry Smythe 05.
Save it to the Terry Smythe 05 folder.
Open the Terry Smythe 05 folder and rename the
Terry Smythe 05.txt file by changing the extension to .mid, also adding a )0- to the front.
This is what it looks like:
)0-Terry Smythe 05.mid
The reason for the )0- is to make sure it rises to the top of the list.
(use sort by name).
With the playlist loaded in winamp, use add, file, and import the new file to the list, sort by name to bring it to the top.
Now use playlist, save as, and resave it using the original name:
Terry smythe 05
Now you will never lose track of which playlist you have loaded, as the name appears at the top of the list.
The fake midi file, having no midi data, is just passed over by the player and does not cause any problems.
Usually this will work to bring the naming file to the very top of the list, however if the heuristic has picked a 1st track name from the midi file that has quotation marks, that file will list first. Even in a large list the naming file will usually appear, if not at the top, then within the first 3 listings.
You can save a few steps above when loading a new folder by adding the naming file to the folder before you load it the first time and save it.
If the playlist name is different than the folder from which the files are loaded, then you can make a title file containing both the playlist name and the Folder name.
example Folder name - Terry Smythe 05
Playlist name - Terry 05A
I would then use a naming file:
)0-Terry 05A - Terry Smythe 05
Now you have the playlist name and the folder name which contains the midi files in the list.
