If I am correct, I believe I saw it posted that the fire department responds to 3000 plus calls a year that is including the countless building fires that they respond to. I know that their is not a "volunteer" department around that responds to over 600 calls a year. Volunteers can not respond to the scene of any call in the city in under four minutes like the current department can.

I whole heartly agree that changes have to be made but public safety is NOT the place to look. Remember, when and if that time comes that you might require the services of the police dept or fire dept you want and expect a professional service in minutes.

The city should seriously think about picking up trash one day a week as opposed to everynight on Broadway, stop street sweeping in the rain and maybe put parking meters on Front St or Water St.
