no one can say that the PD is bloated. The independent study conducted on 2005 when crime levels were lower, stated they should have approximately 115 officers. Or to put it another way, about 20 more than they have now.

The salaries, while some may not agree, are mostly in line (mostly because many are departments make more) with what other police officers make in the area.

Most Police officers do NOT work 9-5 as has been alleged. 2/3rds of the patrol division works between 4p and 8a. There are two detectives assigned to nights and on call for overnights.And they do get called.

Bloated? Hardly. The reason so much overtime is paid is because there arent enough bodies. Our police officers are overworked and clearly under appreciated. Dont be suprised when many qualified officers jump ship because it is one thing to work in a dangerous environment. it is another to work in a dangerous environment, be understaffed, and not have anyone care.
