This project has been in the works for over a year. Ali Church presented this to the city council last year. The funds the families receive and the administrative operational costs would be covered by the grant. What’s not covered is the costs outlaid already by Church her staff as well as continued monitoring and administrative city involvement which would come at the cost of taxpayers paying her normal salary.

Personally, I think the program is misguided and does little to nothing to help support the city. A very small percentage of those funds given will be reinvested in the city through small purchases at local corner stores and bodegas but the bulk of those funds are going to big box stores like Walmart and grocery stores which all reside in the Town of Newburgh.

You have to be one privileged and disconnected individual to think that $300/month for a year is going to lift anyone out of poverty especially in this economy.

Church could better spend her political capital and time on programs that directly support the city and seek to lift all residents up.
