How much has that Federally-funded "community center" on South Lander ever been used? There was so much hooplah, when it opened, with a lots balloons, and speeches from politicians about how the residents would use it- especially programs for children. I remember touring it at its opening, and being told that KNEC would have its office there (that didn't last long), but in general the place was not an inviting environment to begin with. Despite this, it was a good idea made with the best of intentions. There was a police substation next door, and there were plans for a playground. As usual, politics took the whole thing off-course, the city lost focus on this neighborhood, and abandoned yet another of its projects that could benefit its people.

So what else is new.
