Porr was part of Taylor's machine until the garbage issue- and that was a short period of time. The bustling for control between Carey and Porr was about who would direct the machine, not to resolve the back door corruption. It became clear when Marino kept it going for his own benefit instead of changing it. Porr was not the problem, he inherited it, but did nothing to clean it up. All in all you can't ignore that political machines had more power then. The winners were bound to keep it going.

One thing about all this party switching is that it is making the party machines useless. They need to be put out of their misery completely. Look at this election. The Republicans are running on the Democratic line and the Democrats on the Republican line- it has finally flipped totally upside down.
