The design or placement of the BMX race course is directly under trees that have graced the park for over a hundred years, possibly the oridinal plantings of Olmsted's. If there was one iota of consideration given, during this ridiculous and destrucive BMX race, it should have been to the park's trees. Trees have many surface roots, especially as they age. Anything, like cars or continued bike riding is a threat to the health of those trees. The DPPC permits cars to park (daily) under the trees along the service road. Most of those trees are dying or have died, as a result of all this weight on their root systems. The DP trees are not being cared for by the DPPC. As they die, the DPW cuts them down. Meanwhile, many trees need pruning and general care. The DPPC would rather raise money to repair greenhouses and raise bees. The park needs the DPPC like a hole in its treasured heart!
