The bike contestants were from out of town. No Newburgh residents were involved in the race. It was a deal cooked up between a Town of Newburgh businessman and the two male red-necks at the DPPC. The bike track left the park trashed. Many people have gone there to take photos of before and after. A good part of the bike trails were on the eastern slope of the park, which faces the inner city area. No doubt this was done for the main reason being that they, the DPPC, don't care about that end of the park. Let's see if they try to mitigate the damage! Most of the DPPC members, including Mr. Hughes and Kiki, among others, live in the town of Newburgh and/or have skanky businesses or teach at MSMC. These are not folks who really care about the city of Newburgh. There was another event that took place this last weekend. The Octoberfest on Liberty St. Strange that the BMX race would be on the same weekend. Kind of rules out a lot of folks who would be downtown, with business folks like Regina and Keith Nieto, two DPPC memebers, to divert citizens away from the park and the race. The bikes rode over and over, thousands of times on exposed tree roots of vintage trees planted during Olmsted's day. The bike tracks have horribly gauged out the hillsides. There's no way this can be rectified, especially considering they are going to make a big presentation tomorrow at the City Council meeting about how successful it was and to ask that this race take place next year. So if they do take the time to replant and reshape the slopes of the park, what good is it, if the races will come again? Again, the DPPC is all about making money and, obviously, not doing the job they are contracted to do, preserving and maintaining the integrity of Newburgh's historic park.
