CONFUSED….

Not again, I wonder what he is thinking now?

To the Editor:

I find Barbara Smith’s response to my letter to the editor confusing. Some of her issues I understand and respond below. Before that, however, I wish to mention that using another person written words is typically referenced by quotation marks. Given over half of Smith’s letter are direct quotes from my letter, it might add some clarity if readers understood where my words ended and her words began. To start, what seems clear is that Smith supports Dickinson-Cracolici-Bello to lead the Newburgh. . Cracolici & Dickinson are running for election to City Council this year with Bello having won 2 years ago. It is Smith’s right to support who she wants in Newburgh. It is just I find the Bello-Cracolici-Dickinson team even more confusing than Smith’s letter. Confusion starts with the suggestion that Bello, Cracolici & Dickenson control of City Council will establish more effective “law and order” in Newburgh. My confusion is based on fact they supported a convicted felon for election as a County Legislator. Over 100 signatures on Omari Shakurs election petitions in the Democratic primary were witnessed by Cracolici & Dickinson. Shakur, a 3 time convicted felon, spent years in State Prison. Perhaps Ms. Smith might clear this piece of confusion up for me. Confusion continues given that Cracolici & Dickenson’s are registered Democrats running as Republicans. Democrats rejected them in the September Primary and picked Regina Angelo and Curly Dillard as their Council candidates. Heck, Cracolici & Dickinson don’t even support other Republicans in Newburgh. Kevin Barrett is the Republican candidate for County Legislator yet Cracolici & Dickenson worked for a felon convicted of Armed Robbery for that elective office. I find it confusing why City Republicans did not select candidates with Republican standards, ethics and policies. Perhaps Ms. Smith will clear these issues up for Republicans supporters. Not confusing is that the people running for City Council against Dickenson & Cracolici have a record of achievement. Regina Angelo has been on Council for 30 years; helped bring Liberty Street back to a place people want to go; the Water Front Festival is her event; she has supported Downing Park for decades. Curly Dillard has been working with the poor in the City of Newburgh for years and has serving on numerous boards and agencies. Against their record I ask Smith what Cracolici has done for Newburgh besides gain name recognition selling pizza on Broadway. What achievement can Dickinson detail in 4 years on City Council except firing one City Manager and driving out another qualified manager in the midst of Newburgh’s current financial crisis? To date the only public comment from Bello, Dickerson & Cracolici related to SOLVING Newburgh’s current financial crisis is suggest calling in the NY State Comptroller to take over Government operations. This is confusing because that is what people elect City Council members to do. I look forward to Ms. Smith’s response to help clear up all this confusion. A democracy is, after all, premised on the expectation that informed voters should select the best candidates in an election to lead them. Which is why, despite Smith’s confusion, I am not confused. Smith’s candidates will not provide the teamwork or leadership Newburgh needs but, instead, will create even greater division, controversy and confusion than already exist. As a result, the two best candidates for Newburgh City Council are Angelo and Dillard and, despite Smith’s confusion, that is who I think people should elect.
