It's important that people realize that at the very same time that the BMX folks were issued a permit to hold the race in DP, the Corporate Counsel (city lawyer) issed a list of repeals to the Charter ordinances governing Downing Park. These 'convenient for the DPPC' repeals were presented to the City Council, but never formally voted on and approved. One such ordinance planned for repeal is: "Playing baseball, football, golf or other athletic games will not be permitted in the park." So therefore, this BMX race, at this juncture, is illegal. How can an illegal act be allowed to transpire, for the sake of profiteering by the DPPC?
