Bikers must stay on the paths in DP. As proof of a continuing problem, the park has grass expanses greatly compromised by continual soccer playing, which is also illegal. Unfortunately, these sports enthusiasts haven't informed themselves about the general rules and goals of DP as described in the Charter, as well as, the Master Plan and Olmsted, the creator of the park. It isn't about tearing around, playing sports that would 'help' DP. For all of you who don't know, this park is meant to be a sanctuary for families and individuals who want to commune with nature. The park is about preserving a bit of nature in the middle of the city. Human impact is supposed to be benign, not aggressively overpowering. Newburgh has a Rec. Park for organized sports activies plus city streets for biking.

Why don't these bikers, who want to raise hell in the park if the race is called off, get challenged and find themselves a long complex path in a more conducive environment, like, say, the Stewart Buffer Lands? Funny, isn't it, that bikes aren't even permitted in most wilderness areas and parks. One has to wonder why?

These bikers reveal how much of a 'game-player' they are, and that is exactly the point!
