It has nothing to do with respect. It has to do with upholding the law and protecting the integrity of a very vulnerable, historic small park that was created for much different intentions than holding a huge BMX race that has absolutely nothing to do with this historic park but just needs some big open land to do their thing on. The judgment and concern is not AGAINST the BMX race. That's fine. The concern is for WHERE is will take place. There are a lot of areas in our region that would better fit this venue, such as the buffer lands, land in/on airport property, farmland, etc. The DPPC could have planned this fundraiser in a different place and still made their share of the profits. Central Park has lots of roads running through it for events, such as marathons, etc. Central Park is careful, for the most part, to protect its greens. It's very difficult to understand why the DPPC has chosen to ab-use the park in this way. Perhaps the park, as we understand it, is no longer an Olmsted park. Like many things, art gets destroyed or altered as new generations take over. Perhaps, in essence, it will become a ruin, like so much other art and architecture in history. The government and private concerns in Newburgh may be helping this along.
