There is no ordinance forbiding a father and son tossing a ball in Downing Park. The ordinance specifies 'organized, team sports'. These would necessarily destroy the big lawn. However, as anyone can see, the ordinance is not being followed, as the soccer players, since they can no longer use the NJH field, have used the big lawn all summer. If you check it out, it is a mess and hardly any grass left, not to mention the garbage and the cars parked everywhere. This is not the purpose of Downing Park. The city should work with the schools to allow the neighborhood soccer players to use the school fields, which is what they are intended for. * The meeting was a simple act of anarchy or more to the point, the actions of a dictator, who swished his hysterical hand and ok'd a BMX race in DP without the approval and vote of the entire city council. This is illegal and suspect and we all hope it is investigated at the state level.
