The subject of strong mayor/strong city manager has been argued ad nauseam here. I don't know how long you've been here but any elected mayor who's served in the past 30 years has been a certified basket case and would have zero ability to run a city. Rarely do more than 3000 people vote in elections here, who do you believe would be represented? At least with a strong city manager government there's a degree of professionalism. What's made our city managers failures all along has been the people who chose those city managers, the elected officials. It's a tough issue and it hasn't been hashed out here as much as it should. The last city manager who actually made a positive difference here was Michael C. When our water was tested and levels of PFOS(A?) were detected at higher levels than what was deemed acceptable, he shut it all down. The response from the city council and mayor at the time was to berate him and threatened to fire him in an illegal meeting at city hall. It is because of him that we are getting water from the NYC aqueduct still. In the meantime all our city government offices- filled with employees who mostly don't live in our city- are getting bottled water delivered on the taxpayer's dime while the rest of us are forced to drink water out of the tap- and pay a high price for it.
