The Afterschool Initiative
Department of Human Services
Located at the Washington Heights Community Center, our Youth Bureau Division makes space available to local and regional organizations for programs, meetings and special events. After school programs benefit children, youth, families and communities. Funded by a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant from the New York State Education Department, we fund four lead agencies and over twenty service providers to deliver academic support and enrichment to children and youth after school.

Mullins Apartments / Glenn E. Hines Boys and Girls Club
Horizons-on-the-Hudson School
Designed to keep kids safe during the critical hours of 3-6pm, the "After school is Power" Project involves four after school programs and is funded by a grant from the Department of Justice.

My question is, if I wanted a itemized listing and audit of who, what and where and how these funds were used would I have to contact each of these organizations? If no, shouldn’t the Director of Human Resources have records of expenditures from the 4 lead agencies listed above? Why is it so difficult to get answers, was the last Downing Park event funded through the 21st Century learning grant?
