The opening and closing comments by Councilwoman Martinez at last Monday’s
City Council meeting were the worst show of partisanship by a council member at a City Council meeting in many years. She demanded apologies from Assemblyman Maher and Senator Rolison, without ever mentioning Congressman Ryan. Oh, how silly of me. Congressman Ryan is a Democrat, and in the eyes of Councilwoman Martinez, Democrats can do no wrong. Her comments basically echoed those of her boss, Assemblyman Jacobson. Mr. Jacobson, of course, does not act as a bipartisan legislator in the Assembly, but rather as the political boss that he was for many years.

Our immigration system is totally broken, and will only be fixed by a bipartisan agreement. If Councilwoman Martinez truly wanted to address that, she would not be attacking members of the other political party. By the way, where was her righteous indignation when City Manager Venning, Commissioner Gomerez, and some of her fellow council members made their unhinged attack on District Attorney Hoovler and regional TV reporter Gomez? I don’t recall her demanding apologies from them. I only heard crickets.
