Indifference and accountability are not mutually exclusive ...as per my comment referencing "the adults in the room hold themselves to same "code of conduct" they apportion to the children". I'm one of the adults in the room. In my suggesting "if it can't be avoided, be indifferent to it" I am inferring don't react on a personal level to what you can't control. In social exchanges it's obvious who has the locus of control. Having the ability and fortitude to hold the whole, let alone the self, to a decorum is an asset. A collective body that can not, obviously will not "govern" itself is a liability. "Embolden"? Of coarse it does, it's a deliberate twisted distraction. I see and point to the headwinds coming, I do what I can come what may to hedge against them and that entails not affording attention to the political spectacle. ...And I will not be asking for a self-recognition plaque for my efforts.
