Councilman Shakur claims to have enrolled over 3000 Democratic voters in the city. 399 of them voted for him in the primary. That would be a little over 13% of his enrollees. The general election will have a greater percentage of registered voters voting, but it will still be a poor percentage. If it is 25% and that same percentage of Councilman Shakur’s enrollees vote, he would get 750 votes. Can Ms. Bello garner more votes than that? If the % of registered voters who vote in November turns out to be 50%, the councilman could get 1500 votes. How many registered Republicans are there in the city? What percentage of them will vote? Ms. Bello would need an awful lot of crossover Democrats and a large percentage of the independent voters to pull the upset.
