Kudos to City Manager Venning and Commissioner Gomerez on the professionalism they exhibited at last night’s City Council meeting. During the City Manager’s update Mr. Venning provided the factual information from last week’s infamous press release without adding the attacks that were characterized by one local media outlet as an “Unhinged Attack”. When Commissioner Gomerez gave his presentation on the 2022 activities of the Police Department, he too gave a factual report without needlessly attacking anyone.

I hope that this is the direction that the executive staff will now turn in. The mayor said last night that the public trust is a number one priority of the city. The very unprofessional press release from last week has eroded the public’s trust. It is very evident that the city administration is not a fan of District Attorney Hoovler. They may have legitimate reasons for that. The attacks on the D.A. and a local media personality in a press release that should have simply highlighted some positive crime statistics was certainly not the way to solve those differences though. The city needs to do some work to regain the public’s trust. I hope that the presentations of City Manager Venning and Commissioner Gomerez at last night’s meeting is the beginning of that.
