Newburgh's failures came from a white male dominated and controlled government. As with almost all small cities in the country, the influence of the oil/gas and auto industries resulted in the disinvestment of existing communities to build new ones dependent on driving. But instead of putting blame where it belonged on the perpetrators of these policies, they succeeded in convincing the white population that it was the poor- and especially AA- that broke everything.

It's telling that you, ITK2, are a lifetime resident. You live in a bubble with zero experience of the world. I am always amazed that people admit this without a shred of self awareness. But I guess that goes with the territory.

I was going to delete this post but in light of what this blog is about, I believe it exhibits one of the main reasons we have such ignorant elected officials. It's racist and pitifully ignorant. Small town popularity contests based on one's lifetime connections never go well. Sure we've had our share of carpetbagging opportunists too but they were only able to rise because of the insularity of the "lifetime residents" lack of experience out in the real world.
