The intent of the KNEC funds was community and economic development in tracts 4 and 5. By giving a $300,000 loan to a for-profit developer, the city is depriving others of this potential funding for revolving loans, etc., people who might even start new businesses that would actually hire employees, rather than subsidizing a "major developer." Apparently Douglas is also using KNEC funds to pay for costs associated with the property auction. "The city's money is the city's money," Mr. Douglas believes, agency, earmark, law or intent be damned.

So Leyland comes begging, saying no bank will give them a loan for $300,000. I repeat: no bank will give them a loan.

Remember the Carchietta property? It stunk from the get-go, but Valentine and his cronies weren't going to be bent out of shape by some pesky citizens. And now the city is on the hook.

Meanwhile, the local fire starter ennobles the delusional rantings of the mayor and Wood. Unfortunately, there are people in the community that think because it's printed in the paper it's true. Is this pathetic scenario the reason someone recently told me they were thinking of relocating to South America?

It's fascinating that you equate "knowing so much" with the apparent ability to "bid and build." Are the poor, or those who have modest means, therefore ignorant?

No. I think the proper word would be "powerless." Those of limited means are powerless to purchase Carchietta's lot, powerless to ensure equitable enforcement of the law - scratch that, enforcement of the law period, powerless to purchase the influence of the local fire starter, powerless to hire an attorney to defend them should they be personally attacked for speaking the truth in this land of the "free"...

And so it goes on and continues, the mayor's lies, the enablers, the deluded, the advertorials, and the simmering anger of those who recognize institutional injustice that no one in "power" gives a damn about.

Unless it might embarrass them, but there's little to worry about when the papers are bought.
