Thank you for your in depth explanation as to why we are where we are fiscally. But despite all that, Police and Fire are necessary, it looks like insurance companies and corporate greed are behind the rising price of retiree and present employee healthcare and pension expenses, however, there is a caveat, it's called contractual obligations. At the end of the day, concessions and agreements were made at a "bargaining" table. States and local government alike agree to terms set forthbin both sides! So at the end of the day, they all know what they sign up for!! All that deferred compensation and etc are kick the can down the road approaches, leaving the working man to figure it out. Politicians like Harvey, Grice, Sklarz all benefit from contractual agreements being former or current NECSD members. Look at those contracts! Everyone blames Cops and PD, and talk about unfunded pension obligations! Stop making contracts and then disagree with them down the road. In turn, when economic downturn happens, these already poorly run, underfunded city and local governments get caught holding the bag, because poor as politicians raid the coffers for themselves and their constituents. So forgive me on all the data, but it doesn't take away from the fact that these people put their life on the line, and, it is contractual, and federal obligation to be met!
