Torrance Harvey how about we do that when you tell the city manager to move to the City of Newburgh like he's supposed to or find another job.

Lxxxx Lxxxx Dxxxx Thanks for your input. He’s closing on a place very soon. He got an extension on his time to find a place here. If you look at the housing market in our city & throughout the entire state.. especially in the Hudson Valley there’s very little options & the rental prices & selling prices are high. Extremely high. You know that.. now with Air B N Bs the available rentals & homes are very scarce. We all know that. But again, thank you for your input. Enjoy your night.

Lxxx Lxxxx Dxxxx I could have sworn I read somewhere that the city manager makes like 150-200k a year right? Why is it so hard for him to find a place? The people living in newburgh aren’t making that a year and seem to find a place to live right? Asking for a friend 😀

Torrance Harvey don’t buy into the hype that airbnbs are the reason why there is no affordable housing. Mortgages rates and property values are at record highs, Newburgh buildings are in severe disrepair and need expensive maintenance, this is passed on to renters which is leading to higher rent. It’s not worthwhile for landlords at current market rent. If airbnb is banned you can say goodbye to the waterfront and Liberty street. All the tourists and people coming up from the city on weekend trips to spend money at these businesses will just go to Kingston, Hudson, Beacon, and elsewhere to spend their money. That would destroy small businesses on Liberty and the waterfront in Newburgh which rely on tourism. Tourists want to stay in places with nice airbnbs. Restricting airbnbs will severely damage the local economy by eliminating tourism from Newburgh. This is not NYC, Hudson valley cities require tourism to patronize businesses just look at beacon.

Hxxxx Cxxxx it’s just another talking point he has latched on to and is now going to hammer until he ruins yet another positive thing for the city of Newburgh. There is no foresight with him, or even historically with some members of the city council and we are constantly feeling the repercussions of their shortsightedness. Parking meters are not going to fix the city’s budget problems, but you know what will help? Riding this wave of momentum of visitors and tourism and all the direct and peripheral streams of new revenue related to it. Banning Airbnbs will prove to be a mistake, but it seems like making bad decisions is the theme here.

N he makes $200k/yr. The prior CM made $150k, and the current CM, as Comptroller, told the City Council he'd quit unless they fired the prior one and promoted him. They fell for it. And then, after they did that, he held them up for a 33% pay increase.
But to your point, plenty of income to afford even the nicest apt Newburgh has to offer.

Torrance Harvey it’s the numbers guy right? That’s who you blamed at the last city council meeting Mr. Venning! But he works for you so you and the city council approve or deny his recommendations correct?
