Beacon's decent public transportation happened alongside the city's growth, and most still drive a car a short distance to the train terminal parking. Beacon uses uber relative to Newburgh using cabs. Again, that is after the fact. What supported Beacon to this point? Beacon builds people housing that supports the municipality, a symbiotic relationship. Newburgh builds out housing (the latest iteration is "micro-housing") to support orange county's and nycity's homeless/low income people (a product of being overwhelmed by southern border "migrants" taking nycity up on its invite), a 'beggar thy neighbor' relationship. The latter relationship created a fertile ground culminating in deep pocketed "grassroots" to develop a seed crop of obliging low income renters. It's full face and frontal with legislative backing.
Agree about a failed public transportation system. I see private transportation being inhibited as well. Private vehicles will become prohibitively expenssive to own...ICE vehicles by regulation, EVs by build costs, materials supply and recycling issues. In the interim, EVs will be pimped and the inadequacies of the grid will become painfully obvious because a buildout of all that is "green/renewable" is dependent on carbon based fuels.Despite that, rather inspite of that, the warning signs are and will be ignored. It's happening in real-time across the globe. The EU, having gone cold turkey on carbon based fuels being a base, is rationing energy usage with the knock-on effects hitting industry and agriculture.
