The conditions that created the poor Newburgh of the past 60 years were national trends. Urban renewal, redlining, veteran housing loans, suburbanization(car culture), CIA crack, police corruption, non-profit poverty culture, churches profiting off the poor. Newburgh has a limited ability to tackle making amends for these wrongs because it does not have the borrowing power or capacity of the national government. Good luck with getting anything of substance from the local government besides empty blowhards like the mayor and the council. Their ignorance in this regard pandering to voters with misinformation is why they're there. Their only interest is benefiting personally from these developments because they know full well there is no enforcement motivation from on high. If it wasn't the Democrats, it would be the same with the Republicans.
