Paramedic struck by drunk driver and dies in Newburgh, city withholds information

December 22, 2022
4:25 pm

NEWBURGH – A female paramedic with the Ambulnz service was struck while crossing the four-lane road of Robinson Avenue in the City of Newburgh last Friday, December 16 at 6:18 in the evening by an alleged drunk driver and the city never issued any news release about it. The woman died from her injuries on this Wednesday and still no word from the city administration that prohibits the police or fire departments, or any other agency in city government, from releasing information or talking to the media.

This tragedy was made public by the Emergency Medical Services Public Advocacy Council.

Killed in the incident was Lisa Sillins, a 55-year-old who was reportedly coming off duty to the employee parking lot across the street when she was struck.

The alleged driver, Pablo Colector of White Plains, was charged with DWI, driving under the influence and vehicular assault, according to the EMS group, since the city never issued any information about the incident about which the public had a right to know.

The EMS council said Colector was given an appearance ticket returnable to city court. “There is no confirmation if the driver will also be charged with a felony for injuring a first responder.”

Now, the city administration has not said if the suspect will be charged with vehicular manslaughter because Paramedic Sillins died.

The group said even Ambulnz would not comment about the incident until they announced her death in a Facebook post.

“I really don’t know what to say, there’s just so much,” said Paramedic Dominic who rode with her in the past. “She was a great person and a great provider. She had a really big heart and would do almost anything for anyone who she worked with. I never saw her not smile.”
