Levine also hailed Gaydos' replacement. "Thank goodness, we have someone of Ken Hall's stature and intellect stepping into this critical role," Levine said.

Vanderhoof said the Record is fortunate to have Hall. "It's not often you can find someone of Ken's journalistic credentials and work experience while also finding someone who has roots within our own community."

Hall grew up in the Hudson Valley and is an Orange County resident. He received a bachelor's degree from Princeton University and a master's degree in communications from Stanford University. He began his news career in radio, at WVIP in Mount Kisco. Later, he was editor of The Daily Star in Oneonta and then executive editor of the Traverse City Record-Eagle in Michigan for Ottaway.

He came to Ottaway headquarters in 2002.

"Ken has done a splendid job as vice president of news for Ottaway the past five years," said Ottaway CEO John Wilcox. "But his first love has always been the newsroom, not the corporate suite; he'll undoubtedly do fine work at the Record."

The Times Herald-Record has nabbed 22 awards in the annual New York State Associated Press Association contest.

The contest highlights the best news writing, photography, columns, online content and headlines from newspapers across the state.

In most categories, the Record competed in the 50,000 to 125,000 circulation category; in photography the Record was in the over 50,000 category. The awards will be given during the group's annual banquet, set for Sept. 21 in Albany.

The Times Herald-Record is the flagship of Ottaway Newspapers Inc., the local media arm of Dow Jones & Co.

The awards included:

Editorials
