The real reason behind this story is racism. The union, and the new Chief
"Francis Spinelli" have a axe to grind with city manager Todd Venning. Spinelli can be heard in the firehouse on numerous occasions badmouthing city council, and the city manager in particular. Not to mention, the internal strife within the fire union itself, who had a battle with the union president on moral issues of him being in a position unlawfully. It never stops, I hope the district attorney or whomever investigates this whole matter. Especially going back to hiring. In particular, an address on Ann Street, owned by an Assistant Chief, Timothy Dexter, who helped out non-city residents get on the job by using his Ann Street address!! It was over 5-6 individuals, who essentially took city jobs from true residents by placing out of towners on a city preferred list by using this Ann Street address. Invesitigate that!!!
Anonymous firemen talking in the paper about city residents who legitimately came on the job, and now you have a political bone to pick, using these young, true, "city residents" as cannon fodder. They should be ashamed. Also, investigate how a firefighter, hired on the safer grant, was let go, and was continued to be paid, long after his separation from the job, just to maintain S. A. F. E. R funding, kept this individual on payroll, knowing they were not even on the job anymore! Ask that question ❓❓
Better yet, don't believe me, look into it. That's an easy check. Any investigator worth his salt will uncover that. So all this hype over two hires, is a far cry over what hasn't been uncovered in the department. Once again, this is the tip of the iceberg! This department is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Forced resignations, targeted retaliation against minority members are just a few issues within the department. Please 🙏 open an investigation into the City of Newburgh Fire Department before another internal scandal happens and gets swept under the rug. I imagine the Department of Homeland Security will not be happy, when it finds out the city took their money 💲 knowing the illegal actions they perpetrated to maintain funding! I believe his last name was Galazzo. That should get you started if you truly want to clean up this department. Run and put this in the paper. There is talk of a Union brokered deal for a now retired Assistant Chief, helped to make this all happen, Terry Ahlers. He knows where the bodies are buried. Subpoena these individuals, and what you will glean from this is a telling history of illegality and nepotism. Don't take my word for it, investigate. Connor O'Davie's study didn't find that through their financial audit did they? This place is unbelievable, only in upstate NY, home to the Capital Rioters, look at some of these firefighters Facebook pages! Racist rhetoric. Shameful, to think this is what keeps you safe.
