The ship with the volunteer fire department aboard sailed from Newburgh 89 years ago - never to return. No sensible person would propose going to a volunteer fire department in Newburgh in 2022. If anything, the volunteer fire departments in the surrounding communities will be moving to paid departments in the years ahead for the reasons that you stated in your post.
