Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus' statement via facebook concerning staffing for all first responders, following
the Lander Street fire. Note the response comments that touch upon difficulties that volunteer fire departments are facing.

David M. Hoovler Orange County DA and I are strongly recommending that municipalities with paid emergency personnel ensure that they have adequate staffing for all first responders, including police, fire, and EMS when responding to emergency calls.
Now more than ever, our community needs to extend their support to first responders, who risk their lives for us every day. We must also protect them and allow these men and women to perform their job safely and ask municipalities to consult with unions and review applicable industry standards when working with our first responders.

The Newburgh City Manager and Council's treatment of the fire department is reprehensible.
Thankfully the County Executive and the DA have decided that the difficulties facing volunteer fire departments, or that we're facing an ambulance crisis, are not actually problems. Only the paid departments have problems worth commenting on, I guess.

Not too concerned with understaffing at OCJ though?

Nepotism should be the next victim in Newburgh.
Councilperson (can’t call them a man) Omari Shakur and his unqualified lame duck grandson should be ashamed of themselves; but they’re not.
How the City of Newburgh can justify paying Omari’s grandson and another individual in excess of $40,000 per year when they failed the fireman’s exam is incomprehensible.
I’m not sure if two additional qualified firefighters would have changed the outcome of last week’s fatal fire, but it certainly wouldn’t have hurt.
Omari Shakur has more blood on his hands… when will it end?
