A consent decree is an agreement or settlement that resolves a dispute between two parties without admission of guilt (in a criminal case) or liability (in a civil case).

Consent decrees in policing are more intrusive: a settlement agreement filed in federal court between plaintiffs and the local government agency in charge of the police. These consent decrees are typically overseen by a judge, who can legally enforce provisions in the agreement.
