Firefighters work a 24hr shift, 24 consecutive hours, then 3 days off. So they work 48hrs in a work week, 8 hours of that 48 hours is contractually paid in time or pay. That is how time is owed to them contractually! But they work a mandatory schedule with that in their schedule. It's just how it works out due to a 48hr work week. But as far as overtime it's not 3 days! They don't work 8hr days, if you think 🤔 of it in that manner, they work 3 days in one day, because they work a 24hr shift. 8x3=24. Simple, no they don't get 24hrs of overtime, as per contract, overtime I read is at 12hr blocks. So a shift if it is open for overtime is split into two 12hr shifts, that two different firefighters are picked from a rotation of same rank and qualifications for the purposes of fair distribution of overtime. The mayor should really read the contract before he makes blanketed statements in regards to FD overtime. Any overtime is as a result of actual man hours, a body for a body, where is the scam? There is no way for a no show, a body for body, position for position. It's like a basketball game, you have five players on both sides for a total of 10 players. Without ten their is no game, I'm talking pro ball folks, no pick up game, the mayor wants the ffs to play a pickup game in a pro league!! Can't do it. I hope that analogy wasn't too crude . But fact remains, the FD is man for man, hour for hour, only scam is the mayor using this as a diversionary tactic, to draw away from the fact he made a decision to cut services and a person is dead. He does have blood on his hands, respectfully.
