By percentages, the police and fire departments' yoy cost increases from 2018 to 2022 are amongst the lowest of the City's departments. As well, the actual overtime for the safety departments is not that out of line from the manager's adopted budget. Napkin math has the 2022 General Fund Grand Total increased just under 20 % from the 2018 budget. Itemized, the Total Fire Dept. increased just over 12 % over the same period. Albeit, the DPW had a much needed and long neglected budget increase for '22. Point being, the Safety Dept. o.t. is just another cog in the municipal machine, not its redline. 'You want to limit Safety service supply side costs, limit the demand side subsidies.
