Multiple fire departments from Orange and Dutchess Counties are battling a three-alarm fire at several buildings on Overlook Place in the City of Newburgh. At least two ambulances have been called to the scene.

At 3:05pm, the City of Newburgh Fire Department was dispatched to a call for a three-story dwelling on fire at 96 Overlook Place, located diagonally across from the South Middle School. Initial firefighters responding reported smoke visible in the sky. The incident commander arrived on the scene and found heavy fire in the rear of the building.

City firefighters arrived with one pumper and one ladder truck to begin attacking the fire. The fire quickly spread to 94 Overlook Place. The incident commander called for a second alarm, followed later by a third alarm.

Pumper trucks with manpower from the West Point, Air National Guard, Middlehope, Winona Lake, and Castle Point Fire Departments all responded to the scene. The Good-Will Fire Department provided a pumper plus a rescue truck with an air system. Ladder trucks from Cornwall-on-Hudson and the City of Beacon Fire Departments also responded. Off-duty City of Newburgh firefighters were called in from home to help battle the fire. Multiple Orange County Deputy Fire Coordinators and City of Newburgh Fire Investigators were called in.

The Rombout Fire Department from Dutchess County as well as the Orange Lake Fire Department stood by to cover any additional calls in the City of Newburgh.

The Vail’s Gate, New Windsor, Cronomer Valley, and Cornwall Fire Departments were all called to help but reported they were unable to respond.

Over two hours into the fire, the incident commander reported via radio that firefighters are still struggling to get the fire under control.

There is no word yet regarding any injuries.
