I had the absolute pleasure to see the city council budget session, when it was the Fire Departments time for presentation, it got funky. Correct me if I’m wrong, didn’t the city lay off police and fire in an effort to save the city from financial calamity? Now, our great and exalted Mayor, was up in arms over that department’s overtime. How can you expect to cut personnel, and save money on overtime when there is no personnel to fill lost position. IT WILL ALWAYS CREATE OVERTIME. I’m so tired of this charade every budget season, same ole crap, overtime is high in police and fire, we have to do something about it, blah, blah ,blah. You did, and it didn’t work, like all the other cost savings measures related to layoffs. He is a typical politician, and not even a good one, to try and manipulate the public into thinking these departments are responsible for this overtime situation. How, when just about everyone, except for a few council members voted to lay off almost two dozen police and firemen collectively. This is a shame and a disgrace to the people of Newburgh, then he talks of a volunteer department, excuse me, he said “hybrid” department. The Fire Chief informatively explained how what the mayor thought wouldn’t fit this city. I want to see what the PD number is for overtime, whatever it is it was created by the council!
